Schalke 04 bot laner Konstantinos “FORG1VEN” Tzortziou confirmed Thursday that he and the team have mutually decided that he temporarily steps down from the active roster. FORG1VEN called out Schalke’s inability and unwillingness to fulfill his ambition to win and stated he won’t return until changes are made.
Per FORG1VEN [sic]:
“In my 7+ LoL career, I always played to win and be competitive. As of now at least, current roster doesn’t fit this principles. Schalke is unable/unwilling ot make changes to fit that goal, so we mutually agreed that I step down until and if they are willing to do so.”
Schalke’s academy player Nihat “Innaxe” Aliev will take FORG1VEN’s place for the week 4 matches against Rogue and G2 Esports, hoping to score their first win since the season has begun.
FORG1VEN’s stepping down further signals serious issues in Schalke’s roster. FORG1VEN was Schalke’s biggest off-season signing but so far, has has not delivered for the German team, scoring in the bottom two of almost every statistic not related to raw farm. He holds the lowest kill and highest death count out of all bot laners in the LEC and while Schalke are clearly a team that’s struggling across the board, finding some individual issues with FORG1VEN should not be difficult.
The decision isn’t likely to repair FORG1VEN’s image either. Infamous for multiple instances of unsportsmanlike or toxic behavior in both stage games and solo queue, FORG1VEN’s return to the LEC after his military service was seen as a chance for redemption — a comeback story for both the player’s career and his image. Abandoning his team in a time of need, however, is surely to sit bad with Schalke fans.
