Japan’s DetonatioN FocusMe are out of the 2019 League of Legends World Championship. LJL’s champions scored their third loss in Group B, losing an excruciating 63-minute slug-fest against Isurus Gaming and will have to watch the rest of the tournament from the sidelines.
Even though they are eliminated, DFM didn’t go out without a fight. They wounded Splyce in their second encounter in the groups, giving LEC’s third seed their first loss and forcing a first-seed tiebreaker against Isurus Gaming. The hour-long back-and-forth match-up against Isurus will also go down as one of the highlights of the Play-Ins stage, with DFM rocking a mid-lane 5/1/4 Ziggs — a champion hardly ever played in professional environment.
This year’s performance of DFM is a tad lower than last year, when the Japanese squad reached the Play-In Knockout stage to be swept 3-0 by EDward Gaming. By making it to the tournament two years in a row, however, DFM can go home knowing they remain the best team the region has ever produced.
Day 2 now continues with several more very important matches. In Group A, Clutch Gaming will fight for their Worlds life after losing their first match today to Unicorns of Love. Should CG drop their last games against MAMMOTH, they will join DFM on the bench of eliminated teams.
