Clutch Gaming were effortless in their Play-In Knockout game against Royal Youth today. Despite a somewhat shaky performance in the group stage, CG delivered a solid show to advance to the Worlds 2019 Main Event group stage, grabbing a 3-0 against Turkey’s champion.

Although the wins CG got in the group stage mostly came through Heo “Huni” Seung-hoon, this time around it was Cody “Cody Sun” Sun in the spotlight. Clutch’s AD Carry went deathless across the three games, putting on a combined 23/0/12 KDA and deservedly received the MVP of the match award.

The future for Clutch in Worlds 2019, however, is uncertain, as there’s a good chance the team is drawn into the Group of Death with SK Telecom T1, Fnatic and Royal Never Give Up, which would feature all four major regions in one place. The other option — the much preferred one for them — is Group B with FunPlus Phoenix, J Team, and GAM Esports.

The first option is likely also the more exciting for the fans, as it sets up several match-ups between Huni and his former teammates from Fnatic and SKT, with whom he made his previous three World Championship appearances.

Tomorrow, the Play-In Knockout stage begins. In the first match, Hong Kong Attitude meets Isurus Gaming, with the LMS team coming as the slightly bigger favorite. The highlight match of the day, however, will be between Splyce and Unicorns of Love. Splyce had a rather effortless win of their group stage, while UoL had to go through a tiebreaker in theirs, but Unicorns’s double upset against Clutch Gaming should come as a warning for LEC’s third seed.
