Rasmus “Caps” Winther is likely to leave Fnatic for G2 Esports, ESPN reported Tuesday. Upon arrival, the star mid laner of the EU LCS champion will take the place of current G2 mid laner Luka “PerkZ” Perković, who is to switch to the AD carry position.
According to ESPN’s Jacob Wolf, the move is part of G2’s plan to improve their bot lane. Before the start of the 2018 season, the then defending champions lost bot duo of Jesper “Zven” Svenningsen and Alfonso “mithy” Aguirre Rodriguez to TSM. To replace them, they brought in Petter “Hjarnan” Freyschuss and Kim “Wadid” Bae-in, who helped the “samurai” to a semifinal finish at Worlds, albeit missing on domestic titles. ESPN further report, that Mihael “Mikyx” Mehle, currently of Misfits, will support PerkZ.
If the roster move goes through, it will be one big loss for Fnatic. Over the course of 2018, Caps became the mid laner to beat in EU LCS and was largely considered one of the best worldwide. The Dane was a centerpiece in Fnatic’s return to the top, culminating in back-to-back EU LCS titles and Worlds 2018 second place finish. If Caps does move to G2, on the other hand, this could be another shift in power in Europe. Even with a fresh roster, G2 managed to upset Worlds favorites Royal Never Give Up, finish second in the Spring Split and co-win Rift Rivals.
Either of the organizations are yet to comment on ESPN’s report.
