Bilibili Gaming clinched a playoffs spot for the LPL Summer season yesterday, easily defeating Rogue Warriors 2-0. This marked BLG’s ninth win this season, mathematically ensuring them a top 8 finish, regardless of what happens for the rest of the season.

Whether BLG can secure a top 4 finish is questionable, however. At 9-4, they are a match ahead of the top 3 teams in FunPlus Phoenix (11-1), Royal Never Give Up (10-2), and Top Esports (10-2). The good news is that all if these teams have some difficult matches ahead of them, and losing streaks are more than likely. If BLG defeat LGD later this week, as expected, and pull off a win against RNG next week, even a top 2 finish is not out of the question.

Coming into the playoffs, BLG can also look back at a very successful season, and a good recovery from the Spring Season, where the team missed the playoffs by an inch, finishing ninth behind Cinderella story JD Gaming. This season, BLG have been firing on all cylinders, and together with RNG are the team with the most MVP players in the top 10: ADC Xie “Jinjia” Jin-Shan, mid Lee “Kuro” Seo-haeng, and jungler Zeng “Meteor” Guo-Hao.

There’s still plenty to go in the LPL Summer Season, with 22 more matches left to determine the other four teams to snatch playoffs spots. Suning, EDward Gaming, Invictus Gaming, and LNG Esports are the next behind BLG, but few are really safe. iG have three matches to play, mostly against low-rank teams, so their chances are more than good. Suning, on the other hand, are playing EDG, FPX and LNG — all of which are top 8 teams — and a bad cold streak can seriously endanger their top 8 spot, even if they are ranked 5th at the moment.

Of the four, LNG is in most danger, ranked above 9th place Team WE by only a smidgen. LNG have been on a four-game losing streak, while WE have been gaining momentum, looking to slingshot themselves into the top 8 with potential wins over Victory 5 and Rogue Warriors in their last two matches. LNG, on the other hand, need the win against Vici Gaming tomorrow, or a potential loss to Suning next week could cost their spot to WE.
