Worlds 2018 quarterfinalists Afreeca Freecs have added more firepower to their bot lane. The team announced Monday that it has signed former KongDoo Monster ADC Seo “SSol” Jin-sol ahead of the 2019 season.
Hello, this is Afreeca Freecs.

SSol is the fifth new player Afreeca acquired during this offseason. The team desperately needed a major revamp, considering their result at the tail end of the season. After finishing second and third at the LCK Spring and Summer playoffs, respectively, LCK fans hoped for, at the very least, a respectable finish for Afreeca at Worlds 2018. Instead, the team became part of the region’s worst showing on the world championship stage to date.
Although Afreeca Freecs topped their group at Worlds, losses to Flash Wolves and G2 Esports introduced just enough tension to question how far the Freecs would go. The answer came swiftly in the quarterfinals, as Afreeca lost 0-3 to Cloud9 in the quickest top 8 match at the tournament. Coming home to Korea, the team knew that they’d have to make major changes.
SSol’s acquisition adds more options to Afreeca’s bot lane. The former KongDoo player will be competing for the position with Kim “Aiming” Ha-ram and partnering with supports Son “Jelly” Ho-hyeong and Lee “Proud” Jeong-jae.
With the 2019 roster completed, coach Choi “iloveoov” Yeon-sung will hope for a redemption ark next year, although competition against the superstar rosters of SKT, Gen.G and KT Rolster will be difficult. LCK’s next Spring Split will begin a month from now, Jan. 16, and will take place in the newly-built Riot League of Legends stadium LoL PARK in Seoul.
