Drama has erupted over unpaid prize money from Epic Games. The creators of Fortnite have allegedly failed to pay several players from the Australian Open Fortnite Battle Royale event. The solos event took place from January 26 to 27 and had $500,000 on the line.

The claim was brought forth in a Reddit thread with evidence provided. The accusor, LeftRightGN, states that he and around 20 others have not received payment for placing in the money at the event. He goes on to explain that this list of players alone total “over $100,000” in earnings unpaid. According to the official tournament rules created and implemented by Epic Games, payments are meant to be made within 90 days.

Attempts to contact Epic Games by himself and others have resulted in the company stating they were not a sponsor of the event.

The tournament information provided to the players states otherwise though. Add in the fact that Epic Games also promoted the event via their own social media and you’re left with a questioning look.

Also important to note and even more important is that several players who were paid apparently received said payment directly from Epic Games.

This leaves the situation in an awkward spot. Epic Games has released no official statement at this time, but we imagine this will get sorted out sooner rather than later.
