The European Regional Qualifiers for The Chongqing Major had some really big surprises yesterday and today, with 2 of the biggest teams in Dota 2 being eliminated. Both Ninjas in Pyjamas and OG would be looking towards The Bucharest Minor in hopes of getting to the second Major of the Dota 2 Pro Circuit 20189/19 season.
Yesterday saw NiP fail to win either of their opening two series in the group stages of the EU qualifiers. They started off with a loss to the Swedish giants, The Final Tribe followed by a surprising loss to Vega Squadron – both teams who had come through the Open Qualifiers. NiP were looking great after an admirable 4th place finish at the recent Kuala Lumpur Major but after they were eliminated from the MegaFon Winter Clash Qualifier just a few days ago, they end up failing to qualify for the CQ Major. NiP would still have a shot but they’d need to march to victory at The Bucharest Minor.
Losing sucks, into the minor qualifier we go. GGs friends, we'll be back on Saturday.

The second team that would be fighting for Minor victory just to get into the Major would be the reigning champions of The International, OG. After taking a small break after their amazing run at TI, OG lost Anathan ‘ana’ Pham and this seemed to be something that adversely effected their squad. With Per Anders Olsson ‘Pajkatt’ Lille taking his place, the team slumped to 2 losses in the group stages of the qualifier, both to Alliance. The TI winner’s curse seemed to be strong and kicking but it was their first time out with their changed roster and OG would be hoping to get back to their TI form.
Team Liquid, Team Secret, Alliance and The Final Tribe fight now for the three places available for EU at the Chongqing Major. There are still two series left to play today as the 4 remaining teams will fight for a spot in the Upper Bracket finals or drop into the Lower Bracket – but tomorrow will see the culmination of the EU qualifiers.
