Earlier today, during the Newbee versus Virtus.pro series at MDL Macau 2019, in the drafting stage of the game, the camera caught Vladimir “No[o]ne” Minenko and Pavel “9pasha” Khvastunov playing Apex Legends while the rest of their teammates were figuring out the picks and bans.

It’s no secret that Virtus.pro are a team who enjoy their time at every tournament. More often than not the Virtus.pro Dota 2 players find the resources to give the cameraman reasons to stay focused on them and to some of the Dota 2 community players, their way of being strikes as arrogant or too disrespectful.  In reality, the VP players are just taking a relaxed approach. However, judging on their results after the first two days of MDL Macau 2019 group stage, the relaxed attitude might have hurt their game. Virtus.pro sit at the very bottom of the group with just 2 wins and 5 losses. On day one VP went onto to a full negative record losing the best-of-one battles versus Evil Geniuses, Vici Gaming and Royal Never Give Up.

Before VP’s second game from today, Beyond the Summit, who are delivering the English broadcast for the event, tweeted: “When Virtus pro finishes their game of Apex Legends, they’ll have to face Newbee who’s focused and ready to fight.” However, the draft for that game started before the players finished their Apex Legends game and it was shown on stream.

Roman Dvoryankin, General Manager at Virtus.pro made a joke about the situation saying that the first two VP players for Apex Legends have been revealed, but he also engaged in a Tweet exchange with Ilya “Lil” Ilyuk who was a bit salty about the situation.

Lil criticized his former team for not being consistent with their official statements. “Playing for fans or for ”your own fun” he asked ironically making a hinting at one of the interviews Roman Dvoryankin gave to Cybersport.ru back in January, where he explained why VP chose MDL over ESL One Katowice.

Lil’s tweet and Roman Dvoryankin reply translate as follows:

Lil: Playing for fans or for ” your own fun”? And if you don’t care for fans, why thank them in every interview. Hard to answer of course, but in any case not surprising that you are blamed after that.

Roman Dvoryankin: You didn’t last long

Virtus.pro will start tomorrow the MDL Playoffs run from the lower bracket, where the first round is also a best-of-one affair. Their first adversaries are Invictus Gaming who already defeated them once in the group stage.
