After Group A completed its first day of play at ESL One Hamburg 2019, it was time for Group B to get underway and there were some massive results from the day as teams begun their journey toward being crowned champions of Hamburg.
The group opened with a surprising forfeit from Quincy Crew after a player was too sick to play and was subsequently announced that Quinn ‘CCnC’ Callahan had been moved to hospital. While they would have to forfeit their series against Ninjas in Pyjamas, they would return to play against Gambit Esports later in the day – with ex-player and now possible coach Sumail ‘SumaiL’ Hassan standing in for CCnC. We hope that he has a speedy recovery and that he is back in action as soon as possible.
That aside, one team definitely dominated the day in Group B, without fail – TNC Predator. After a significant shuffle post The International 2019, the team were still considered to be one of the best in the Southeast Asian region and after Geek Fam withdrew from ESL One Hamburg 2019, TNC were the sole SEA competitors. TNC were unstoppable in both their series, going completely unbeaten through the day and claiming the top spot in the group for now.
While Quincy Crew may have seemed out of sorts after their forfeit, they still put on a fantastic show in their last series, managing to claim a draw to end of day one. On the other side of things, Team Liquid had a terrible showing, taking only a single game victory from the day.
Group B standings after day 1:
TNC Predator: 4-0
Ninjas in Pyjamas: 0-2 (2-2 due to forfeit)
Gambit Esports: 2-2
Wind and Rain: 2-2
Quincy Crew: 1-1 (1-3 due to forfeit)
Team Liquid: 1-3
ESL One Hamburg 2019 continues tomorrow with day 2 of the group stages and more epic Dota 2 action. Many teams will be hoping to make up some ground and hopefully find their footing, while others will be hoping to expand their lead at the top.
