We had already witnessed how many strong teams were quickly emerging from the CIS region in recent times, but unfortunately only two would make it into the Major, leaving four to fight for two spots at the WePlay! Bukovel Minor.
Gambit Esports, Team Spirit, HellRaisers and Gentlemen were the four CIS squads which would have to battle through a double-elimination bracket to reach the Minor and possibly make their way into the DreamLeague Season 13 Major. Yesterday we saw the first team make it through into the Minor as Gambit managed to beat out both HR and Spirit without dropping a game. While both teams dropped into the lower bracket, HR gave themselves another shot at reaching the first Dota 2 Pro Circuit event of 2020 by knocking Gentlemen out and setting up a best-of-five series against Spirit today.
It was clear that both teams were hungry to make it into the Minor, with HR having played in the previous one; finishing in third place and Spirit reaching the previous Major – although ending up as the first team eliminated. The series went back and forth, with Spirit even registering a 17-minute victory in one of the games, but it would be a final and decisive game five which separated the two CIS squads. When it came down to it, Spirit would prove themselves the stronger squad as they ripped through HR in the final game and secured their spot at the WePlay! Bukovel Minor in January 2020.
That concludes the CIS regional qualifiers for the upcoming Minor as Gambit Esports and Team Spirit will take to Bukovel to fight for a chance to reach the DreamLeague Season 13 Major.
