Only five teams remained at The International 2019 when the penultimate day kicked off from the Mercedes Benz Arena in Shanghai, China. But after the first series between Team Secret and Vici Gaming, only four would be left standing.
Having looked a little shaky since a magnificent group stage, Secret were still able to show why they were champions of the Dota 2 Pro Circuit this season as they pushed their way through the lower bracket. However, after having what could be considered a rather easy run, the squad would now have to fight against Vici Gaming, a team that has looked fantastic in recent months – even beating Secret at DreamLeague Season 11.
A strategy that we have come to see from OG since the Group Stages of TI was the core IO and Secret seemed to adapt it for their own gain as we begun the first game of the series, with Michal ‘Nisha’ Jankowski picking up the Wisp. A slow start to the game favoured both teams with a Medusa on the VG side of things – but it never really had much of an impact. Once the IO had enough farm, Secret were instantly on the front foot and in little under 25-minutes, GG was called.
VG were now facing elimination if they could not pull together something brilliant to take down Secret but Secret had other plans, picking up a Bristleback. It was, once again, Secret who claimed control of the game in just over 15 minutes, leaving with no real chance to comeback into the game. It didn’t take much longer for Secret to assault the highground and force out the GG.
The win sends Team Secret into a guaranteed top 4 finish at The International 2019, their highest ever placement at the event – and they will face Team Liquid later today to try make it further. Unfortunately for Vici Gaming, their TI ends with them taking a decent fifth place finish.
