Yesterday we saw the group stages of ESL One Los Angeles Online come to an end and today there would be more eliminations on the schedule as the Lower Bracket got underway with Nigma taking on Chicken Fighters.
Chicken Fighters had surprised most as the stack made up of Kuro ‘KuroKy’ Salehi Takhasomi’s ex-teammate, Akbar ‘SoNNeikO’ Butaev had made a fantastic showing in ESL One Los Angeles Online so far. The squad were the first and one of only two teams to take games of Team Secret in their group – and although they still lost, they showed their strength. That said, Nigma were beginning to find their footing again in recent events and they would be looking to continue onwards and upwards.
For nearly half an hour in the first game of the series, things were almost dead-even between the two teams, with neither extending a huge lead over the other for long periods. However, it took one over-extension from Fighters for everything to go awry and from then on, Nigma were in control. While they did put up an amazing highground defense for some time, Nigma were able to smash through and claim a lead in the series.
However, game two we saw a Meepo pick from Fighters, something we expect to be played by Aliwi ‘w33’ Omar, while Nigma went with an odd support Sniper pick. In what was effectively a bloodbath of a mid-game period, Fighters managed to wrestle control of the game away from their opponents and hold on through a Nigma fightback too, to tie the series at 1-1. The final game of the series was basically a complete stomp as Nigma were unable to do anything to fight their opponent’s lineup. While the scoreline never really represented what was happening, Fighters needed one fight to take control of the game and push through to the end.
With that, Nigma would be eliminated from ESL One Los Angeles Online, while Chicken Fighters move forward in the lower bracket, where their next opponent will be either Virtus.pro or Team Spirit.
