North American region will head today, October 7, into the playoffs stage of the MDL Chengdu Major qualifiers with four teams fighting for the three tickets up for grabs. The regional qualifiers for the first set of Major and Minor tournaments of the new Dota Pro Circuit season marked for several NA teams the debut of their new rosters.

Evil Geniuses are playing now for the first time in more than four years without their star midlaner. Syed “SumaiL” Hassan left EG in the post TI9 shuffle to join his big brother, Yawar “YawaR” Hassan at Quincy Crew. While SumaiL has changed not only the team, but also the role, playing now in the carry position, with Quinn “CC&C” Callahan in the middle lane and his brother in the hard lane, EG welcomed two more foreigners to their ranks, building a true international roster. Abed “Abed Azel L. Yusop, one of the best mid laners from Southeast Asia replaced The King, as SumaiL is dubbed by the Dota 2 community in the mid lane, while the offlane position at EG is now occupied by the Russian prodigy, former Virtus. pro carry, Roman “RAMZES” Kushnarev.

Despite the possible language barriers and cultural differences in the new EG team, the mix seems to work perfectly right from the get-go, as the NA juggernaut sailed undefeated through the MDL Chengdu Major. Second spot in their group was claimed by J.Storm whose only loss came at the hands of Evil Geniuses.

In the other group, it was Jacky “EternaLEnVy” Mao’s Fighting Pepegas who took first place, followed by the Hassan brothers’ Quincy Crew on the second spot, who made it to the second phase of the qualifiers. The qualifiers playoffs will be played in a double elimination bracket, best-of-three series, and will commence later today with the first head to head battle of the season between Evil Geniuses and Quincy Crew, where the winner will secure a spot at the MDL Chengdu Major. The series is scheduled to kick off at 13:30 PDT on the Beyond the Summit channel.
