Five days ago, Ninjas in Pyjamas confirmed their new roster for the Dota 2 Pro Circuit season which saw Peter ‘ppd’ Dager changing up the entire squad. With the first qualifier now little over a week away, ppd has announced that the team will play in the European region.
In a video released by NiP entitled “ppd’s Master Plan” the TI-winning captain takes the time to chat about the new roster, his reuniting with Saahil ‘UNiVeRsE’ Arora and everything surrounding how the squad are looking to take on the DPC season. One of the biggest talking points from this video is that the NiP roster will not be playing in North America for the upcoming qualifier, even though they feature three players from the NA region. Instead, they will be looking to EU – but possibly only for the first qualifier. In the video, ppd talks about playing against the new stack created by his old teammates, Adrian ‘Fata’ Trinks and Neta ‘33’ Shapira, in the EU region.
Earlier in the year there were a lot of discussions about “qualifier tourism” which highlighted how rosters with only a few players from a region would take to a different region to play the qualifiers. Back then we looked at how players, even from within NA, found it very difficult to excel in the region via pub games – with some even going so far as to say that the NA Dota 2 scene was in a very heavy decline. Peter touches on this topic in his video too;
Dota is alive and well in Europe and Eastern Europe and I can’t really say the same for North America so, we may come back to North America pretty soon but I don’t really have a strong affinity towards the region. I have my allegiances but they’re for the memes, I guess.”
Peter also touches on the subject of the coach role for NiP as well as overall, stating that he has never been a fan of coaches previously and that moving forward, the roster will avoid having a coach until such a time where it seems that they might require one. The video is very revealing of the captain’s plans for the new DPC season and we wait patiently now to see just how far the new NiP roster can go with two seasoned veterans alongside three younger, hungry and talented individuals.
