WePlay! Tug of War: Mad Moon group stage matches are nearly over. Only the second and third place decider games from each group are left to play, which means that two teams have already secured a spot into the upper bracket semi-finals and two other have met an early ending of their tournament lives.
Surprisingly enough, Ninjas in Pyjamas, who just recently claimed a spot to the LA Major via Europe qualifiers, lost two series in a row at Mad Moon to two teams that didn’t make it even to the Minor.
Nigma took the first series off NiP with a pushing line-up that started to shine towards the mid-late game stage, mostly courtesy of Amer “Miracle-” Al-Barkawi’s on Faceless Void, who was able to control the team fights to perfection. The newly reshuffled NiP got cheesed in game two and sent to the elimination match-up in just 16 minutes by Aliwi “w33” Omar’s Meepo.
Headed into the Group B elimination series, NiP had a more competitive series against Aggressive Mode, who took down their adversaries in a reverse sweep. Game one was a battle of Halberds as both teams had strong, early right click damage, NiP with Nikita “Daxak” Kuzmin on a very aggressive Lifestealer and AM fighting with a Troll and a Huskar in the front lines. With a total of three Heaven’s Halberd in that game, Daxak prevailed in battles to put NiP in the lead in the opening match. However, AM hit back hard in the second game with an Ember Spirit and an Ursa backed up by a plethora of lockdown spells. Game three finished dead even in the kill score, 20 to 20, but was decided on a chaotic team fight, where NiP won the engagement initially but lost the Lifestealer twice and were left with no defense at the 35 minute mark, when they got team wiped. Aggressive Mode seized the opportunity and took the match victory in the next few minutes.
In group A, Infamous got defeated 2-0 by Gambit Eporst and by B8 to get eliminated on the first day of the tournament. At the opposite pole, Team Secret and Virtus.pro closed the day undefeated and secured themselves a spot into the semifinals.
