Even though they have made it to both Minors of the latest Dota 2 Pro Circuit season, Ninjas in Pyjamas have decided to make another roster change as Nico ‘Gunnar’ Lopez is no longer a part of the squad.
Since The International 2019, Ninjas in Pyjamas have struggled to find their footing, even with a third place finish at DreamLeague Season 12 to start the Dota 2 season. While the team only barely missed out on qualification to both the MDL Chengdu and the DreamLeague Season 13 Majors, they managed to claim the available regional spots at the Minors – albeit for Europe first, followed by North America after they changed regions. However, neither Minor appearance has been exceptional from NiP, with a fifth/sixth place in November of 2019 followed by a seventh/eighth place in Bukovel more recently.
NiP had already made a roster change in December when Oliver ‘Skiter’ Lepko departed from the team and was replaced by Jason ‘TANNER’ Connor Weedon, who played with them at the WePlay! Bukovel Minor. Now, following that horrendous result, another change is being made as Nico ‘Gunnar’ Lopez has exited the team.
Confirmed via their Twitter account just a short time ago, NiP announced the departure of Gunnar which included a short statement from Peter ‘ppd’ Dager.
Moving forward for NiP.Dota2 we will be playing the next qualifier in the European region and will be holding tryouts with potential carry players to replace Gunnar. This might be confusing to our fans but our goals are to improve as a team. Attending minors and placing last is not a recipe for success. “
At this point in time there is no word on who will be trying out to fill the spot on the NiP roster but with the team moving to the EU region, there are sure to be multiple possible options in the coming weeks.
