While we’re still some time away from the first Minor and Major of the new Dota 2 Pro Circuit season, in just a few days’ time we will see the closed qualifiers get underway. But just yesterday teams from China begun their open qualifier run and two teams have fought their way through to join in the closed division.
China’s open qualifier for the first tournaments of the DPC season featured some big names playing on smaller teams and a plethora of youth teams in the region. Some of the names seen on these teams are; Yang ‘InJuly’ Xiaodong – playing now for Invictus Gaming Vitality, Lai ‘Ahjit’ Jay Son – playing for CDEC Avenger, Tue ‘ah fu’ Soon and Ren ‘eLeVeN’ Yangwei – playing for Revive and even TI2-winning Zheng ‘Faith’ Hongda who has returned to the Newbee first-team roster. Other notable teams to enter the qualifier were the likes of Team Serenity, EHOME.Immortal, Keen Gaming Luminous and two youth squads from Old Boys. However, with only two spots available for the main qualifiers, many would fall by the wayside.
The first team to claim one of the spots in the in the closed qualifier would be the new roster of Newbee. After Song ‘Sccc’ Chun announced that he would be departing fro the roster, along with Damien ‘kpii’ Chok too, Newbee confirmed a new lineup for the new season with Yan ‘Waixi’ Chao and Faith, a TI winner back in 2012. The team surpassed the likes of Revive and CDEC Avenger and would now be part of the ten-team closed qualifier for the upcoming Minor and Major.
Also joining in at the closed qualifiers will be a fairly unknown team called ‘Look for Smile’. This squad is made up of only one player that has really been seen – although he has played mainly in qualifiers under CDEC, Keen Gaming and Future.club; Jiang ‘XuAn’ Yixin. Look for Smile will now have to battle against some of the best teams in China in an attempt to make it to either the Major or the Minor. The teams in the closed qualifier for China are:
- Vici Gaming
- Keen Gaming
- Invictus Gaming
- Royal Never Give Up
- Team Sirius
- CDEC Gaming
- Look For Smile
Qualifiers begin in just two days and three of these teams will make it into MDL Chengdu Major while another one will be able to fight through the Dota Summit 11 tournament in an attempt to also join in at the Major.
