Rumours have been flying around thick and fast ever since Virtus.pro were eliminated from The International 2019, with many linking players to different teams. Now there is confirmation of one as Pavel ‘9pasha’ Khvastunov has joined Natus Vincere.
Pasha is a well-known member of the Dota 2 community, having played for Virtus.pro for the last three years, helping the team to win countless events, including a host of Majors both within the Dota 2 Pro Circuit and before its inception. While Major titles were flowing for VP, one thing constantly eluded the CIS squad; the Aegis of Champions, a victory at The International. This year they hoped to break the curse of having a fantastic season only to fall early at TI – but it was not to be. Uncharacteristically, VP fell to one of their worst TI finishes of the last few years, ending in 9th-12th and this is when rumours of a disband begun to fly around.
Joining Na’Vi, Pasha will replace Evgeniy ‘Blizzy’ Ree, who will be taking a short break before deciding on his future. In a statement, Yevhen ‘HarisPilton’ Zolotarov had the following to say on their new addition to the roster:
Even before TI we decided that we need to keep the backbone of the team and I am very glad that, despite the high interest in Na’Vi players from other clubs, we managed to do so. The only change in the roster has nothing to do with Blizzy’s level of play — it is the desire not to miss the opportunity and strengthen ourselves with a super-experienced player who possesses the qualities that are so lacking in our young team. I am pleased to welcome Pasha to Na’Vi.”source
He goes on to thank Blizzy for his time with the team and his many moments of brilliance that helped Na’Vi return to TI. With Pasha now on the squad, we look forward to see Na’Vi in action whenever they take to the stage – and hopefully now, they are back.
