European regional qualifiers for The International 2019 have come to an end with a dominant performance from Chaos Esports Club who went 5-0 through the final day of matches to claim the one ticket to Shanghai, China.
It’s been a long and eventful competitive year for Chaos Esports Club, their captain, Rasmus “MISERY” Filipsen and their newest addition, Lasse “MATUMBAMAN” Urpalainen. Originating from the North American organization, runner up at Ti6, Digital Chaos, the new Chaos Esports Club signed mid-January this year the Brazilian line-up of paiN Gaming and aimed at making a mark in the South American region. With three Brazilian players on their side led by Misery and with Aliwi “w33” Omar in the mid lane, Chaos qualified for three out of the five Majors of this season, but haven’t registered good results at any of those. After a bottom four finish in at the Paris Major, the organization waved goodbye to most of their players, moved to Europe. At the same time, despite finishing second at the same Paris Major, and despite having been already qualified for TI9, Team Liquid decided that it was time for a change in their line-up and dropped Matumbaman. In the flowing few days, w33 was announced to have joined Liquid while Matu put on the Chaos Esports Club jersey.
Chaos received a direct invite into the TI9 European regional qualifiers and had a rough start in the group stage. At the end of the first two days of matches, they had to fight through a three-way tiebreaker for the last slot into the qualifiers playoffs. They dropped the first series in the playoffs as well. The Final Tribe defeated them 2-1 and the Swedish team were the first to reach the qualifiers grand finals.
However, in the lower bracket Chaos lived up to their name and from there on went on claiming the TI9 European slot undefeated. In their path, they took down Aachen City Esports 2-0, Hippomaniacs 2-0, and they rolled over The Final Tribe in the grand finals.
There is only one TI9 qualifiers ticket yet to be claimed. North America will decide its winner team later tonight when Forward Gaming will fight against the winner of Beastcoast versus J.Storm.
