OMEGA League: Europe Immortal Division saw its final day of group stage action today with the teams fighting to secure their spots in the next stage of the event; playoffs and play-in stage.
Team Liquid and OG were the first two teams to enter their battle today, with OG already confirmed to move into the playoff stage in the upper bracket but Liquid being in a must-win situation to avoid tiebreakers tomorrow. Going into the series, although OG had lost to Team Secret just yesterday, Liquid were still considered the underdogs – but that is where they began to shine. Taking a 2-0 win over OG would be a massive boost to any team’s confidence and for Liquid, it ensured that they made it into the play-in stage, finishing fourth in Group B.
This meant that Liquid would avoid the tiebreakers tomorrow, with Ninjas in Pyjamas and FlyToMoon being involved in a single best-of-three series to determine who would finish the group stage in fifth place and which team would be demoted to the Divine Division.
For Group A, Natus Vincere found themselves in a difficult must-win matchup with Team Nigma, as they were at the bottom of the log, with only a chance at possible tiebreakers if they won. Unfortunately for the team, they were barely given a chance by Nigma, who raced away to the top of the group – with the final series determining if they would remain the top seed. Evil Geniuses and Virtus.pro were the final two teams to play today, with the two teams hoping to secure a spot in the upper bracket of playoffs.
For VP, only a 2-0 victory would give them a spot in the upper bracket, which they were unable to accomplish. EG were able to claim game two of the series, and even though they ended up losing the series, would still finish in second place for Group A. The teams are now almost all completely set, with only the tiebreaker remaining.
For Na’Vi and one other team to be determined tomorrow, the Immortal Division run ends here, but they will have a chance to join in the action in the Divine Division.
