Open qualifiers for the ESL One Los Angeles Major got underway earlier today with the Southeast Asian region being the first to fight it out for the spots in the closed qualifier.

Going into the open qualifiers were the likes of Team IO, Cloud9, T1 and, with all fighting for the two available spots in the closed qualifier for ESL One Los Angeles. While those were the four that were considered “big names” in the SEA open qualifiers, others that stood out were the likes of Execration, PG.Barracx, Lowkey Esports and Team Oracle. In recent times, the SEA region has seen many teams making a name for themselves by coming through regional qualifiers – such as Team Adroit during the DreamLeague Season 13 qualifiers, and with the strength of some of the above-mentioned squads, it would be a tough qualifier for all involved.

LGD.Int announced their full roster only a week ago and it was clear that they were looking to take the SEA region by storm with the likes of Christian ‘Skadi’ John Abasolo on the squad. However, as the grueling open qualifiers go, LGD.Int were knocked out by Team Oracle – the team coached by Kim ‘QO’ Sun Yeob. With that, one less “big name” remained in the pool but that did not stop T1, Lowkey Esports, IO and C9 from making it through into the round of 16 at the SEA open qualifiers for ESL One Los Angeles.

For today, the SEA region has come to an end but tomorrow there will be many more eliminations as we find out which two teams will join in the amazing list of squads already in the closed qualifiers for the upcoming Major. Later today the CIS and European regions will begin their open qualifier run as we look forward to seeing the likes of B8 and OG fighting their way into the closed qualifier.
