While Southeast Asia were finally granted three spots at the upcoming first Major of the Dota 2 Pro Circuit season, there were still a few teams left behind who would have to try claim the single spot for the region at the Dota 2 Summit 11 Minor.
Ten teams had originally entered the Chengdu Major closed qualifier from the SEA region but only three would qualify to that – while the next four in line would have to fight for a spot at the Minor; BOOM Esports, Team Jinesbrus, Cignal Ultra and Geek Fam. Unfortunately for Jinesbrus, who had originally seemed like an extremely strong squad before The International 2019, they were first to fall, followed by BOOM – as only two teams remained to fight in the grand finals.
Through the Major qualifiers group stage, Geek Fam and Cignal were in the same group as they fought to try get one of the spots available for their region. It was, surprisingly, Cignal who edged out the victory over Geek Fam then, but the team were unable to convert that into anything else and would end up in Minor qualifiers. When they met again, it was the barely-a-month-old Geek Fam roster who would be victorious, as they would now take their place at Dota 2 Summit 11. The roster, which features the likes of Carlo ‘Kuku’ Palaad and Marc Polo ‘Raven’ Luis Fastro, will now have a chance to battle against some of best teams in the world and maybe, if they’re able to find their form, become the fourth SEA team at the Chengdu Major.
The Minor begins on November 7th and runs through to the 10th, taking place in Los Angeles, North America. Currently there are now three of eight teams confirmed as Geek Fam join Virtus.pro and Ninjas in Pyjamas, both of who have progressed through their respective regional qualifier. By this time tomorrow, the Minor will have all eight teams confirmed and we will begin the countdown to the start of the 2019/2020 DPC season.
