China’s Dota 2 Development League Season 2 begun back in October of last year but since January 2020, there has not been any action from this event, until now, as the playoff stage has been announced.
On January 1st, 2020, the group stages of the China Dota 2 Development League Season 2 came to an end, with six of the original ten teams making their way into the next phase of the tournament. Since then, the tournament has not seen any action but finally, this weekend will see the culmination of the league’s second season – confirmed by a post on Weibo.
Starting Friday, February 28th, we will see the playoff stage kick off with EHOME.Immortal playing CDEC Gaming in the upper bracket before Sparking Arrow Gaming and Team Serenity go head-to-head. In the lower bracket, Typhoon Esports Club and You Know Who await their opponents, which will be the losing teams of the upper bracket.
Also running through the weekend are the playoffs of the China Dota 2 Professional League, which features the so called “big names” of the region. The six teams remaining in this include PSG.LGD, Vici Gaming, Invictus Gaming, Royal Never Give Up, iG Vitality and Team Aster, who are all fighting for a prize pool of just over $200,000. The winning team of the Development League will get a spot in the next season of the Professional League, while 2nd and 3rd place finishers will reach the qualifier playoffs for season 2.
Both the Development and Professional League playoffs have been switched to online tournaments due to the epidemic in the region, making it easier for the teams to prepare and play their series without much issue.
