Alliance and Team Liquid were bound to miss the third Major of the season as neither made it through the European qualifiers. However, with the tournament getting cancelled, ESL One adjusted the format into online leagues and expanded the invites list and both teams are now fighting to redeem themselves.
In the meantime, Alliance decided to make a roster change and are now reunited with Gustav “s4” Magnusson, but are still missing a support 5 player. Given the situation, they played in the opening series with Ilya “Lil” Ilyuk and lost it. Today’s matchup against Team Liquid featured OG.Seed’s Andreas Per “Xibbe” Ragnemalm standing in for the Alliance. The first game was a stomp from Liquid, who outmanoeuvred their adversaries with strong counters for Alliance’s team fight strategy. Despite getting utterly out drafted in game one, Alliance figured it out through the next two encounters. They bounced back in an 18-minute game two with flawless executions from s4 on Nature’s Prophet and Linus “Limmp” Blomdin on Templar Assassin.
Game three victory was secured mainly by Nikolay “Nikobaby” Nikolov, who had free farm in the safe lane on Wraith King, which led to an early Radiance and fast objectives taken. There are plenty more match-ups to come for both teams as the group stage play is just at the begging for Europe and CIS, but today’s victory pushes Alliance a bit higher in Group B, while for Liquid this is the second loss in a row which palaces them at the very bottom.
