In less than 24 hours, the closed regional qualifiers for the first Major and Minor tournaments of the new seas are set to begin. Despite being the strongest region of the previous season, not to mention the TI9 results, Europe got only two slots to the first Major of the season.

Valve’s decision seems to be purely based on the fact that the biggest competitors in the region are on an extended break. The TI9 finalists, OG and the former Team Liquid line-up will not be active at the start at the season. Team Secret, who finished fourth this year at The International, is also absent from the starting line. While they will take extra time to recover from the long marathon of the previous season, the rest of the teams are looking to test their new line-ups right away.

Eight teams got invited to the closed qualifiers for the MDL Chengdu Major and the DOTA Summit 11 Minor, and two more joined via open rounds. The two open finalists advanced to the closed qualifiers and one of those is a new full Danish team which features Ninjas in Pyjamas former carry, Marcus “Ace” Hoelgaard.

Team Ascomanni was formed in the post TI9 shuffle, however, the players didn’t lock themselves in time on Valve’s Major registration page and although the roster features well-known figures, Ascomanni had to take the open qualifiers road.

Team Ascomanni roster from position 1 to 5:

  • Marcus “Ace” Hoelgaard
  • Jon ” BabyKnight ” Andersen
  • Mikki Mørch “HesteJoe-Rotten” Junget
  • Danny “Noia” Junget
  • MasterRisk

The second team to reach the closed qualifiers is 683, a stack that had a few impressive games in the TI9 qualifiers, but couldn’t really keep the pace with the very best of the region to pose a real threat.

683 roster from position 1 to 5:

  • zipzap
  • W1sh-
  • Tobi
  • forsemajor
  • antoha

The European closed qualifiers will commence tomorrow, October 5, with the 10 teams split into two regroups of five. Ace’s team is placed in Group A along with Hippomaniacs, Team Singularity, Wind and Rain and the new Team Liquid Line-up. 683 will start in Group B alongside Ad Finem, GODSENT, Ninjas in Pyjamas and the new Alliance roster. The full qualifier process will be covered by Beyond the Summit on their channels.
