Newbee were once one of the best teams and organizations in the Dota 2 scene, posting amazing results constantly which included a 2nd place finish at The International 2017 and taking victory at ESL One Genting 2018. However, since then, the team has failed to impress and in light of their more recent results, they have decided to make some major changes to their roster.

Announced in a Tweet yesterday Newbee have decided to move 2 of their active players to inactive on their roster; Xu ‘Moogy’ Han and He ‘InFlame’ Yongzheng. This comes on the back of failing to qualify for any of the events in the new Dota 2 Pro Circuit Season or the upcoming ESL One Katowice 2019. Joining Newbee in late 2016, Moogy seemed to instantly bolster the squad, helping them to constant great results at multiple China events before 2017 saw the team begin to dominate in the rest of the world. Moogy’s carry presence alongside a mid-laner like Song ‘SCCC’ Chun transformed Newbee into a near unstoppable force which continued even after they failed to hold their own at TI7 and were beaten 3-0 by Team Liquid.

Following that, the team went into the first season of the DPC strong, winning Perfect World Masters and getting revenge on Liquid as they took ESL One Genting 2018 too. Things were still looking good even as the team finished in 3rd/4th at other events but as The International 2018 drew closer, they begun to fall away. After a poor display at TI, the team lost 2 players and their well-known coach, Wang ‘SanSheng’ Zhaohui and from then even less went their way.

The organization’s decision to move Inflame and Moogy to inactive came just prior to them taking part in the China Qualifier for ESL One Katowice 2019 – and a coach subbed in for one player, being Wang ‘Banana’ Jiao and the other substitute being a young China player who is in the top 10 of the region’s MMR apparently. However, this did not work out for the team either and they failed to reach anywhere close to qualifying for the region. In a follow-up Tweet, the organization put forward that they would be holding tryouts and that they team would come back stronger.

We will keep you informed of any news coming out of who takes the spots on the Newbee roster going forward.
