A few hours ago, the final series of the Qualifiers for the Bucharest Minor reached its end with the South American region being the last on the road to the event. With CIS wrapping up just prior to that, the 8 teams for the Minor are now locked in place and ready – many heading to their first ever Dota 2 Pro Circuit tournament.

Gambit Esports were the victors in the CIS Regional qualifiers, as the team continued on their rather interesting run through the DPC after being signed. Previously known as ferzee, the CIS squad featuring the likes of Ivan ‘Vanskor’ Skorokhod and Andrey ‘Afoninje’ Afonin made a showing at The Kuala Lumpur Major after eliminating teams like Na’Vi, ESPADA and Team Spirit to get there – and while they fell to elimination on the first day, they are definitely showing their hunger for victory. Gambit proved too strong for Winstrike Team twice through the qualifiers and secured their spot in Bucharest.

During the Chongqing Major South American Qualifiers, Playmakers Esports found themselves disqualified after they improperly brought in a stand-in player to their series. The team would be sure to not make this mistake again as they fought against both of the Infamous teams as well as WP Gaming in the South American qualifier. The final saw them going up against Jacky ‘EternalEnvy’ Mao’s latest squad, Infamous – which he and Jingjun ‘Sneyking’ Wu joined just under a week ago. It barely took a total of 1 hour for Playmakers to destroy Infamous, knocking them out the running for the Minor and claiming the SA spot in Bucharest for themselves.

Now we wait to see if EE will venture off to new pastures or if he will remain in South America for the time being.

With the qualifiers now over, the 8 teams are set to fight from January 9th 2019 – with $300,000 on the line and a spot at the Chongqing Major on the line for the victor, as well as some of the biggest teams in the world involved, the event is going to be hype. The 8 teams heading to the Minor are:

  • Ninjas in Pyjamas
  • OG
  • Playmakers Esports
  • Gambit Esports
  • Keen Gaming
  • Team Team

Will OG be able to return to their TI form or will we see another team claim the Bucharest Minor title?
