In a rather sudden and surprising move, Evil Geniuses are set to make their first appearance in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive with the signing of NRG Esports’ team.
The news broke by Dexerto states that the two organizations are in “advanced discussions” around the transfer of the Counter-Strike team.
NRG has been in the Counter-Strike scene since the start of 2016 and fielded several different lineups prior to their current following the addition of Peter “stanislaw” Jarguz to replace Damian “daps” Steele as in-game leader.
A recent run of success at the StarLadder major has upped the teams stock, especially in the North America region as they compete at the top with the worlds best in Team Liquid.
Those familiar with the history of Counter-Strike should be familiar with EG. The team fielded some of the best players in the world during their time in Counter-Strike 1.6 including a young Jordan “n0thing” Gilbert, Daniel “fRoD” Montaner, Garett “Grt” Bambrough, Corey “tr1p” Dodd, and Griffin “shaGuar” Benger, Matt “Warden” Dickens, Tomi “lurppis” Kovanen throughout its time in the scene.
Some might remember the Evil Geniuses brand being rumored as a potential home for the former iBuyPower lineup featuring Spencer “Hiko” Martin before a ban rocked the world of the remaining lineup and Evil Geniuses withdrew seemingly into the shadows.
