It’s a good start to the ECS Season 8 Finals for the North American attendees. Needing to show they were both deserving of being considered as top-level teams, both Team Liquid and Evil Geniuses came into this event with a lot to prove.
Evil Geniuses had been unable to find any semblance of consistency going from tournament wins to last place exits. On the other side, Liquid has been unable to live up to the hype and domination we saw from them prior to the pre-Berlin Major player break.
Things are kicking off well enough in Texas, however, as Evil Geniuses picked up a 16-10 victory over AVANGAR in their opener while Team Liquid came out swinging in a 16-4 win against Ninjas in Pyjamas.
While neither team sits in the top 5, both are formidable opponents and hold spots in the top 15 (NiP #9, AVANGAR #11).
Tarik “tarik” Celik also showed some life after several rough showings in recent months while Vincent “Brehze” Cayonte also seemed to be more on par with what is to be expected by him. Also worth noting is the team’s in-game leader Peter “stanislaw” Jarguz led the server with his 97.8 average damage per round.
Liquid had a team effort in their lopsided victory as the whole team finished with a positive kill-to-death ratio and over 82 ADR.
On the other side, Astralis and fnatic are the top dogs in Group B and should the North American teams make it into the playoffs, that is where they will face the real tests.
