With the recent news that Dignitas has officially signed and announced a team, marking their return to Counter-Strike, there are many questions to be asked given the list of players making up the roster and rightfully so.
In this article, I want to talk about what we already know and provide some new information I’ve obtained since the announcement.
-Patrik “f0rest” Lindberg
-Adam “friberg” Friberg
-Richard “Xizt” Landström
-Christopher “GeT_RiGhT” Alesund
-Håkon “hallzerk” Fjærli
-Robin “Fifflaren” Johansson (Coach)
It’s an experienced roster made up of some of the winningest and most legendary players in the scene with f0rest and GeT_RiGht, in particular, dating back to their 1.6 days. In the YouTube video with Dignitas CEO Michael Prindiville and Fifflaren, they discuss taking what was dubbed a “Vitality approach” in which a core of experienced players is built around a young talent (ZywOo for Vitality) which is where hallzerk comes in.
How did we get here?
Piecing together information shared in the YouTube video and comments from Heather “sapphiRe” Garozzo, VP of Marketing at Dignitas, both parties were on the hunt at the right time.
Prindiville, Garozzo, and Dignitas’ League of Legends General Manager James Baker were traveling to CS:GO events around the world talking to teams while Fifflaren and friberg were putting together an idea that started with just the two of them and quickly expanded to include Xizt.
“We had always pinned a “Swedish legends core” as a top prospect, but it wasn’t until I reached out to Xizt that I realized all of the right pieces could come together,” sapphiRe explained.
“Given I have a good relationship with the legendary five, I knew from the start it would be the perfect fit. They have a chip on their shoulders, ready to prove they can still compete with the best. We, at DIG, have a proven track record of “righting the ship” (took LCS team Clutch Gaming from 9th place in LCS to Worlds),” she added.
I’ve been told that Dignitas’ CS:GO team will NOT be relocating to North America. The team will, however, be doing boot camps and fan events at the organization’s various locations including Newark, Philadelphia, Houston, LA, and Boston according to sapphiRe.
The team is currently boot camping in Sweden and officially began team practice this week.
While hallzerk is set to be the team’s AWPer and many would assume Xizt the in-game leader, it appears the latter is not as official as one might think. It was confirmed that as of now that role is not yet set along with the remaining roles such as lurker or entry fragger as the team figures out its identity.
friberg has experience as a secondary caller with Heroic and the roster has a coach with leadership experience as well given Fifflarens history as somewhat of a duo IGL with Xizt during the team’s prime.
f0rest was originally not a part of the puzzle:
Fifflaren states in the YouTube video released by Dignitas that initially the team was looking for two players to join friberg, Xizt, and hallzerk because they simply didn’t believe they’d be able to get f0rest from Ninjas in Pyjamas, his home for the last seven and a half years.
Fifflaren REALLY believes in GeT_RiGht:
While the general public has been questioning whether or not retirement should have been GeT_RiGht’s play upon parting ways with NiP, Fifflaren holds a belief far from that.
“You have a player that has been the best player in the world for several years, a guy like that doesn’t just drop off the face of the planet,” he said. “It doesn’t happen.”
