The first four teams have been eliminated from ESL One Cologne 2020 – Europe. The $325,000 event features some of the best in the world competing until August 30th although BIG, Heretics, MIBR, and mousesports won’t see another day.
BIG were the first to go, moving into an elimination match thanks to an upset victory for Sprout. Taking on Ninjas in Pyjamas to decide who would remain, the NiP boys would mount a comeback to push BIG, the current No. 1 team according to HLTV, out of the event.
Heretics would follow suit, suffering a loss in their opener against Vitality before facing fnatic. The elimination game would go all three maps as Heretics opened things up with a 16-8 win before the Swedes would bounce back with two strong performances of their own (16-7, 16-9) to take the series and eliminate Heretics.
mousesports’ disappointing run of events continued here after a 2-1 loss to Natus Vincere where once again it was the losing team who took the first map, but Na’Vi bounced back with ferocity to take the remaining two. It was MAD Lions who would drive the nail into the coffin for mousesports, dominating the international side 16-5 and 16-4 to secure the series 2-0 with little issues.
Lastly, MIBR were handed a one-sided defeat by G2 to kick off their ESL One Cologne and send them into a match against FaZe. After a night of trash talk for the MIBR boys against Chaos they seemed more prepared than against G2 but it wouldn’t be enough. The Brazilian side would take the first map but fall in the remaining two and be eliminated from ESL One Cologne.
