ESL announced Tuesday that the iconic CS:GO event of IEM Katowice will return Feb. 28 – Mar 2 in 2020. Like the 2018 edition, Katowice 2020 will feature a $500,000 prize pool, half of which will go to the champion.
Naturally, the event will be one of the stops in the Intel Grand Slam Season 3 — the $1,000,000 championship race and the product of the ESL/DreamHack/Intel partnership. Katowice will be one of the two Masters events on the Grand Slam global circuit, the other one being the “cathedral of Counter-Strike”: ESL One Cologne.
16 teams will compete at IEM Katowice 2020: 10 invites and six from the regional qualifiers, with no names revealed so far, but it’s likely that most if not all of the in-power squads in the scene are present in Poland.
Astralis are the reigning IEM Katowice and Major champions, and are also tied with Natus Vincere for second most Katowice titles with two. The Swedes of Fnatic are leading the rankings with three. Fnatic and Astralis are also the only two teams that have won in Katowice in the last four years, so it’s more than likely both teams receive direct invites.
Tickets for the event will be on sale in “late October”.
