The group draw for the ESL Pro League season 9 finals has come to a close. The 16 teams set to attend have been split into two groups of eight in which they’ll compete in a double-elimination bracket.
The event which starts on June 18 boasts a $600,000 prize pool and also offers a point towards the Intel Grand Slam Season 2 which Liquid currently holds two points in.
Astralis look poised to make a playoff run with fnatic looking like their biggest competitor. It should be noted, however, that Astralis did not live up to their expectations at the ECS season 7 finals though and will be looking to comeback with a vengeance. NRG swapped out their in-game leader just earlier today while Cloud9 have been struggling and G2 have been a shadow of what they could be against top tier opponents. Heroic could be a surprise team so keep your eyes on them.
Group B is a bit more up in the air with Liquid, FaZe, mousesports, MIBR, North and more. Liquid and FaZe are favored, however, MIBR has shown some glimpses of their former glory and North have the pieces to be dangerous.
