It’s a bit of a streak for Evil Geniuses as the team once again follows up a major tournament win with a rather lackluster early exit.

The North American side has been eliminated from Intel Extreme Masters Beijing prior to the playoffs after winning StarSeries i-League Season 8 just weeks ago.

It was FaZe Clan that handed EG both of its losses during this event. The opening series went the way of the international mix 2-0 in dominant fashion with EG unable to break double digits on either map.

Their rematch in the decider match would be closer contested but in the end, FaZe would pick up map three and send EG packing.

This follows a similar storyline to that of DreamHack Masters Malmö after EG was crowned champions at ESL One New York. Flying in the day before, EG would go out of the event in last place following their proud moment.

The team currently sits in the number one spot in the HLTV rankings, however, they may have just been dethroned given their poor performance in Beijing. A strong performance from Astralis could see the Danish side reclaim the throne.

Astralis will take on FaZe in the semifinals while 100 Thieves battle it out against the Frenchmen of Vitality to earn a spot in the finals.
