Remember the days of wishing and hoping to see the fantastic Diretide Halloween event comeback to Dota 2 – we had 2 seasons of it and then it disappeared into ancient history. But now Valve have embraced the holiday spirits and gifted us with a new game mode – Frosthaven. The event will also mark the entrance of the Magus Cypher Rubick Arcana.

The Frosthaven game mode is fairly similar to the 2017 Dark Moon event in which a 5-player team defended the Temple of Selemene against the Dark Moon Horde. This time though, we’re fighting against the army of the Grand Magus himself as he attempts to destroy the Frostivus tree and uncover a source of power that lies beneath. Five heroes must battle against waves of enemies and survive to save the Spirit of Frostivus – and of course, there are lots of rewards on offer for those who do.

The most mouthwatering of these rewards is a-more-than-extremely-rare but just as adorable Immortal Gingerbread Baby Roshan Courier. Other rewards include tons of announcer and mega-kill packs, a plethora of different couriers, lots of different sets for heroes and a hoard of treasures too.

The Magus Cypher Arcana

2018’s Arcana Vote winner was none other than the Grand Magus himself, Rubick and this new Arcana is filled to the brim with amazing effects. Rubick beat out the likes of Faceless Void and Invoker to claim the latest and possibly greatest Arcana currently in the game. First and foremost, this Arcana will give Rubick a style progression system that will change the effect of 115 stolen spells/abilities. Abilities such as Invoker’s Chaos Meteor, Void’s Chronosphere and (my personal favourite) Warlock’s Chaotic Offering amongst hundreds of others all will change colour and shape to match the progression of Rubick’s Arcana.

Additionally, Rubick’s recent Immortal, Crux of Perplex, has been updated with a new style which will let it match the Arcana’s colour signature style when a spell is stolen. Over and above this, the Arcana comes with a remastered voice which pays homage to the late Barry Dennen who created the masterpiece of Rubick’s voice as well as Chaos Knioght and Phantom Lancer too. Below is a full list of everything included in the Arcana when purchased:

  • A style progression system that features custom effects for 115 stolen abilities.
  • Custom dynamic color effects on the cape that change depending on stolen spells.
  • A complete set of all-new animations, including cast animations, death animations, run animations, unique stolen spell animations, and more.
  • New base model, texture, and custom animated pedestal.
  • New effect and sound for Spell Steal.
  • Support for dynamic color effects on the Crux of Perplex Immortal Item.
  • Custom ground effect for players who complete the style progression.
  • Remastered Voice.
  • Custom Hero Portrait, Minimap Icon, and Stolen Spell Icon Border Effect.
  • Custom Emoticon.
  • EXALTED item Quality on all purchases made before January 21, 2019.

You can pick up the Rubick Arcana starting from today in the Dota 2 store here and it will cost $35 or you can find all the information on the event and the Arcana on the Dota 2 website.
