Veteran French AWPer Kenny “kennyS” Schrub has been benched by G2 Esports the organization has announced. Audric “JaCkz” Jug will return to the active lineup in his place.

The 25-year-old AWPer has had a rough run of form since late 2020 which hasn’t seen much of an improvement in the first several outings of 2021. G2 has seen an earlier than hoped exit at the three BLAST events they’ve recently attended which they followed up with a group stage departure at IEM Katowice 2021.

Head Coach of G2 Esports CSGO, Damian “maLeK” Marcel had the following to say regarding the decision:

“Kenny is a pillar within G2 and a legend in the scene. We have shared incredible moments and memories together. We all feel that, though difficult, a new home for him will be a great opportunity to remain at the top. We are excited to have JACKZ return to the team, bringing his flair, creativity, and a new balance to the team. NiKo respositioning as a hybrid AWPer gives us a more open-minded approach while also providing more flexibility within our game and the current meta. Although bittersweet, we are confident these changes will bring back some great CS by G2 to the server.”

JACKZ has been on the G2 bench for roughly three months. He hasn’t been completely inactive though, participating in some tournaments with a mix team called DBL PONEY alongside Lucas “Lucky” Chastang and Alexandre “bodyy” Pianaro whom he played with on G2 previously.

As mentioned above, with the benching of kennyS, NiKo will move into that role when needed but still also serve as a capable rifler for the team. This will give the squad the ability to approach things very dynamically although whether or not NiKo has the AWP potential kennyS has been known for over the years is yet to be seen.

What do you think? Is this the right move for G2 Esports? Where should kennyS go? Let us know in the comments or on social media!
